Find Cheap Neighborhoods Using eBay

Lancaster, PennsylvaniaIf you are searching for a cheap neighborhood that has an old house in need of rehabbing in your area and are frustrated with the results you’re getting on the realty sites, you may want to take a look on eBay. I was checking things out last night and there is a neat search function on the left side that lets you choose distance from your zip code, pricing and other options. I searched within several different radii (I don’t care if it is wrong - I like the look of radiuses better. Radii just looks funny, doesn’t it?) and discovered a new location with some wonderful architecture - Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It looks like a really great city to pick up bargains in and preliminary research shows that this city has a lot less crime than Reading or Harrisburg. I’ll have to look into it more and give you a long write up on the area later, but if you like the Victorian style, you’ll be drooling over these places!

Now, I’ve never  shopped for real estate on eBay and I don’t plan to be your guinea pig, either. So, if you see a house you like during your search, you’ll have to figure out whether it is a good way to buy a home on your own! What I did was find the areas on eBay that had several homes for reasonable prices that interested me. Then, I searched those areas on the realty sites to see if they had a group of homes that were under $100,000.

If I liked the look of the homes I pulled up, I hopped onto citydata.com and looked for community newspapers to get more info. As much as I liked some of the houses in different areas, I crossed them off if they had a lot of crime issues. I may be an artist, but I’m not one of the really edgy ones that like to be the first on the block with revitalization efforts.

I’d love to hear from you if you find a cool new neighborhood from eBay’s real estate listings. Oh, and if you bought a house online, I’d love to hear about that, too.
