The Things You See in Old Homes
I was in a home the other day that looked like it had a lot of possibilities from the outside. Then, I stepped into the house and saw carpet samples on the floor. Not a traditional rug or hardwood floor, but I can go with that. It is an easy fix. Up the carpet square stairs and…Whoa! Every one of the bedrooms had carpet squares glued down on the walls and the ceiling. The bathroom rugs started halfway up the wall. And, of course, there were rug squares on all floors, too.
Now, I’m sure they had a great reason for doing this. Maybe they were short on money and wanted to insulate the house better. Maybe they were all really loud and wanted to create a sound barrier. Bottom line, if they want to sell for a decent price in today’s market, they’re probably going to have to bring in a construction crew to tear out all the upstairs walls and ceilings and drywall the second floor. Otherwise, it is going to sit on the market for a very long time or they’re going to get a very low offer that they’ll finally decide to accept.
What’s the strangest thing you’ve seen when you went to look at a home for sale?
